The shadow of civic elections on the budget, the gift of infra projects in the stronghold of CM Eknath Shinde. Navabharat (New India)

Mumbai: The annual budget presented by the state’s Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the Legislature on Thursday is considered to be the beginning of a good day for MMR. The state government has made several announcements in its new budget for the development of resources in the suburbs of Thane, Palghar district around Mumbai. Major projects ranging from new metro line, water transport to roads, tunnels and water supply have been included in these. In the budget, infra projects have been showered in CM Eknath Shinde’s stronghold MMR.

The government has decided to start the work on the Virar-Alibaug Multipurpose Highway project in 2023 to get rid of the traffic problem in MMR. Finance Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also announced this during the budget. The 127 km multi-modal corridor from Alibaug to Virar was planned a decade ago. This corridor will pass through the MMR areas of the three districts of Palghar, Thane and Raigarh. The responsibility of making this has been given to MSRDC.

22 thousand crores for acquisition

22 thousand crore rupees will be made available for land acquisition of this project. Out of which 61.29 hectares will be acquired in Palghar, 520.92 hectares in Thane, while about 765.01 hectares of land will be acquired in Raigad. There are plans to complete the land acquisition by May.

Eye on Mumbai and Suburbs

The way the development of resources in Mumbai and suburbs has been targeted in this populist budget of the state government, it clearly shows that the Shinde-Fadnavis government has focused on the upcoming BMC, TMC and other municipal elections. It is noteworthy that there are 6 municipal corporations in Thane and Palghar districts. Leaving Vasai-Virar, the Shinde-Fadnavis government will make all out efforts to capture the remaining five. The shadow of these municipal elections is clearly visible in the budget of Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Shinde-Fadnavis government on election mission

The way announcements have been made in the budget for facilitating resources, it is clearly evident that the Shinde-Fadnavis government has embarked on the electoral mission of municipal corporations before the upcoming Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections. It is notable that Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan including Mumbai have administrators on all these municipal corporations who are working directly on the instructions of the state government. The announcements of the government will also be easily implemented through the budget.
