Thane. A man allegedly pushed his neighbour’s five-year-old son and four-year-old daughter from the second floor of a building in Maharashtra’s Thane district. The boy died in the incident, while the girl is seriously injured. The police gave this information on Wednesday. The incident took place on Saturday in Mumbra’s Deoripada area and the motive behind the act is yet to be ascertained, officials said.

The inspection of the matter is going on. An official of Mumbra police station said that the accused, identified as Asif, was arrested on Monday. He said that there were frequent quarrels between the accused and his wife and both had no children. According to the officer, the couple lived in the building next door to the victim’s family and Asif’s wife and the children’s mother were friends, which was not liked by the accused.

On Saturday, Asif allegedly pushed the two children from the second floor, killing the boy on the spot, the official said. However, the girl somehow went home and informed her father about the incident. According to the official, the body of the dead child has been sent to a government hospital for post-mortem. Based on the complaint of the children’s mother, the police arrested the accused and booked him under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), he said.
