Pandit Keshari Nath Tripathi was considered a pole star on the political spectrum. Like former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Governor Kesharinath Tripathi also had a lot of respect in all political parties. Perhaps this is the reason why his long political career remained completely unblemished. Former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav used to call Kesharinath his best friend. Both may be of opposite ideology, but both these leaders always respected each other in the assembly.

Senior BJP leader Padum Jaiswal says, his departure from this world is a big loss for the party. Apart from being a skilled politician, he was also a good advocate. In view of his efficiency, on July 14, 2014, the Modi government appointed him as the Governor of West Bengal. He had taken over the responsibility of the governor of five states including West Bengal. Along with Bengal, he also held the additional responsibility of the Governor of Bihar, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura.

Keshari Nath Tripathi is one of the prominent leaders of BJP who had the experience of winning assembly elections more than five times. The names of leaders like Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, Cabinet Minister of Yogi Government Suresh Khanna etc. are included in this category. Former BJP Metropolitan President Ranjit Singh says that Kesharinath was first elected as MLA from Jhunsi assembly in 1977 on Janata Party ticket.

After this, he won the elections for the years 1989, 1991, 1993, 1996 and 2002 from the City South Assembly on a BJP ticket. In the 2007 assembly elections, he was defeated by the current cabinet minister Nandi Gopal Gupta, who was then in the BSP. After this, he lost the 2012 election as well. In 1977, he became the Finance and Sales Tax Minister for the first time. He remained on this post till April 1979. As a minister, he made many reforms in sales tax and also simplified its process.

Speaker of the Legislative Assembly three times, the desire to become an MP remained unfulfilled

Former Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi was the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly three times. His first term was from 30 July 1991 to 15 December 1993. After that he was the Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 27 March 1997 to March 2002 and from March 2002 to 19 May 2004. BJP leader Shivendra Mishra points out that he ran the assembly efficiently as Speaker.

Kesharinath Tripathi was also the President of the Uttar Pradesh branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. He has attended many national and international conferences. In the year 2004, he contested the Lok Sabha election from Machhalishahr, but could not win the election. In this way Keshari Nath could never become a Member of Parliament in his political life.

Registration was done for advocate in 1956

Keshari Nath Tripathi enrolled as an advocate in the Allahabad High Court in 1956. During this, he took one year’s training from Advocate Babu Jagdish Swaroop. In the year 1965, he was elected the Library Secretary of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association and its President in 1987-88 and 1988-89. He is considered an expert in election matters. He also wrote a book on this subject. In the year 1992-93, he was nominated as a member of the Committee on maintaining cordial relations with the Legislature, Judiciary.

Became a volunteer in childhood, went to jail in 1953

Kesharinath Tripathi joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in the year 1946 at the age of just 12 years. When the Jana Sangh was established in 1952, he joined it. Then his age was only 18 years. In 1953, he was very active in the Kashmir movement run by the Jansangh. Because of this he had to go to jail then. Even during the Emergency in 1975, he fought free cases for all the people who were in jail. He made arrangements for food etc. for the relatives of all the prisoners.
