Due to dense fog, the Ganga Vilas Cruise carrying Swiss tourists from Kolkata could not enter the Varanasi border even on the 17th day. The cruise that started from Ghazipur could reach Amadpur in Chandauli till late Sunday evening, then the cruise team camped there. Now the cruise is expected to reach Kashi by Monday. Grand preparations have been made to welcome the tourists.

Some Swiss tourists who came from cruise to Ghazipur reached Varanasi by road on Sunday. These tourists were felicitated at the Cantonment Hotel by playing shehnai. In the evening, tourists visited the Dashashwamedh Ghat and also saw the Ganga Aarti. Visited Dhamekh Stupa and Museum at Sarnath. A special cultural program was also organized by the Department of Tourism and Culture. After resting in the hotel, the Swiss tourists will visit the main tourist places of Kashi on Monday.

The fog has slowed down the cruise further. The cruise which started from Ghazipur at around quarter to twelve on Sunday had reached eight kilometers ahead of Chochakpur in the late evening. Meanwhile, there was dense fog and the cruise was brought to Amadpur in Chandauli and brought to standstill. Now the cruise is expected to reach Varanasi by Monday. The cruise will remain in Kashi till January 13. On the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off the cruise. This cruise will start from Kashi and reach Dibrugarh on March 1.

Rakesh Kumar, regional director of the Inland Waterways Authority of India, said that eight cruises operate between Kolkata and Varanasi in India. Cruise service on waterway number-1 is a big step in the field of river transport. It is the beginning of a new era in the world of river tourism. With this, not only river tourism, but commercial activities from cargo will accelerate. This luxury cruise will cover a distance of more than 3200 kilometers across 27 river systems in five states of India and Bangladesh. During this, 50 tourist places can be visited. The cruise will cover its distance in 52 days.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said that with the inauguration of MV Ganga Vilas, India will become part of the global map of river cruise travel. This will open doors of immense possibilities in the field of river tourism in the country. At present, there are eight river cruises operating between Varanasi and Kolkata in the country. Apart from this, cruise traffic is also continuing on the second national waterway (Brahmaputra river).

  • This will be the longest journey in the world by a river cruise.
  • MV Ganga Vilas Cruises is 62 meters long, 12 meters wide and runs with a draft of 1.4 metres.
  • – It has three decks. It has 18 suites on board with a capacity of 36 tourists.
  • Amenities like 5 star hotel. All the luxury facilities like restaurant, music, gym, spa, etc. for the passengers.
  • This cruise has a capacity of 80 passengers. This cruise was promoted from the year 2018
  • – Will stop at more than 50 places, including World Heritage Sites. This cruise will also pass through Sundarbans Delta and Kaziranga National Park.
