Islamabad. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khwaja Asif has said that the country is already bankrupt. He blamed the army, bureaucracy and political leaders for the current economic crisis. Addressing a program in his home town Sialkot, he said that Pakistan needed to stand on its own feet to stabilize itself.
The Express Tribune newspaper quoted him as saying, “You must have heard that Pakistan is going bankrupt. It has already happened. We are living in a bankrupt country.” He said, “The solution to our problems lies within the country. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not have a solution to Pakistan’s problems.”
He said that everyone including the army, bureaucracy and political leaders are responsible for the present economic plight as the law and constitution are not followed in Pakistan. Attacking the previous government, Asif said terrorists were brought into Pakistan two-and-a-half years ago, resulting in the current wave of terrorism. On Friday’s attack on the police office in Karachi, he said the security agencies fought the attackers bravely.
