Family planning program is being run to control the growing population. There is no interest in this among the men in Hathras. Men put women ahead as soon as the name of sterilization comes up. There are many types of misconceptions prevalent among men due to which they run away from sterilization. According to the statistics of the Health Department, in the last three years, less than one percent of men have undergone sterilization as compared to women. For example, only women are raising the slogan of Hum Do Hamare Do in the district.

Men run away from fear of weakness

CMO Dr. Manjit Singh told that there are misconceptions about masculine weakness in men regarding sterilization. There is no side effect of vasectomy. Apart from this, there is no NGO working for creating awareness about sterilization in Hathras. The NGO will have male workers who can easily motivate men for sterilization. However, ASHA workers in the health department are women. She can’t inspire men. He easily inspires women.

Department is campaigning for sterilization

Women also refuse to sterilize their husbands.

Santosh Kumar, nodal officer and ACMO of the family planning program, says that according to ASHA workers, women themselves refuse to sterilize their husbands. Women believe that if men do heavy work then they may have physical weakness. However, ASHA workers also do their counseling.

Vasectomy completely safe

Dr. Santosh Kumar says that the process of vasectomy is easier and safer than that of women. Sterilization of men is done without incision without stitches.
