The winter season has started troubling the elderly. Due to the melting cold, the pain of old injuries of the elderly has started getting fresh. The number of elderly patients suffering from knee, back pain and bone disease has started increasing in the district hospital.

Orthopedic Dr. JK Malhotra told that due to arthritis, there is swelling in the joints, due to which there is unbearable pain. The effect of this pain starts showing slowly on the health as well. Due to arthritis, the cartilage present in the joints starts getting damaged gradually and due to this the bones start rubbing or rubbing against each other. Apart from this, as the cold increases, swelling also starts in the body. Apart from the elderly, nowadays the problem is being seen in the youth.

Problems due to lack of vitamins and calcium
Dr. Malhotra told that today’s young generation does not pay much attention to exercise and consumes more fast food and junk food. Due to which there is deficiency of vitamins, calcium etc. in them. Bone and joint pain increases in winter. The decrease in temperature causes the veins to constrict and increases bone and joint pain in people with vitamin D deficiency. In such a situation, the sunlight of winter season will save people from bone and joint pain. Elders must take sunlight in the morning or afternoon.

Doing this will benefit
Exercises such as swimming and cycling will benefit joint rotation. Dr. Malhotra told that include these works in your lifestyle. This rotation of the joint will relieve the pain and help prevent the condition from getting worse. Apart from this, walking in the morning and evening can also be beneficial. However, while walking, keep in mind that do not walk too fast, walk on flat ground and walk wearing comfortable and good quality shoes.

Dr. Gopal Verma told that in case of bone and joint pain and cervical, do not do any exercise or yoga without the advice of a doctor. This may make the problem worse. In case of pain, do not take any pain killer or any other medicine without consulting the doctor. In winter people wear clothes that cover the whole body most of the time. Due to this, the body does not get sunlight, while the veins of the body shrink due to the coolness in the temperature. In such a situation, people often come under the grip of bone and joint pain. Sit in the sun and let the skin get sunburned, drink adequate amount of water and take care of food. Do not take exercise and medicine without doctor’s advice, do not use heating pad for a long time. Keep applying hot water compress on the knee.
