Weather News: People shivering due to cold wave, schools up to class eight in Agra and Firozabad closed for two days


The coldest day of this season was recorded in Agra on Monday. Due to the Western Disturbance, the northwesterly cold wind blowing from the mountains was troublesome for the people of the plains, especially in the districts of western Uttar Pradesh. On Monday, not only in the day, but also in the night, the mercury went below normal, while the fog which had been prevailing since night became denser in the morning. Dense fog reduced visibility to zero for the first time and vehicles crawled on the highway due to no sunlight till 11:30 am. The day was sunny, but due to the cold wave, people were suffering from melting and chilling. The minimum temperature of 5.8 degree Celsius was recorded for the first time this season, due to which Agra remained the second coldest city in the state. According to the forecast center of the Meteorological Department, there may be dense fog in the morning in the next three days. On the other hand, in view of the severe cold and cold wave, a two-day holiday has been declared in schools up to class eight. Holiday order has been issued in schools in Firozabad district.

Due to cold wave and dense fog in Agra, District Officer in-charge A Manikandan on Monday night ordered closure of all schools from class nursery to eight till December 28. All schools, colleges from class 9 to 12 will remain open from 10 am to 3 pm from Monday.

In-charge DM A Manikandan said that in view of bad weather and problems of small children, it was decided to keep all schools up to class 8 closed till December 27 and 28. Government and private schools will not conduct classes on Monday and Tuesday. Action will be taken against the schools violating the instructions.

Due to dense fog on Monday morning, not only the expressway, National Highway, but also the areas inside the city recorded zero visibility. Vehicles crawled on Agra Lucknow Expressway, Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Jaipur, Agra-Gwalior, Agra-Delhi National Highway. After the fog till 11.30 am, the sun blossomed, but proved to be ineffective. The day’s mercury dropped by three notches to settle at just 16.6 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 5.8 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.

According to the forecast center of the Meteorological Department, there may be dense fog in the morning in the next three days. During this morning visibility can remain from zero to 100 meters. The day temperature is likely to remain below normal and melting, chilling is likely to increase, while the minimum temperature may also remain below normal.
