Lucknow: The upcoming budget session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature is likely to be stormy over the recent death of a mother-daughter in Kanpur Dehat district, law and order and inflation, among other matters. The opposition has planned to corner the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government. At the same time, the state government has clearly said that the opposition does not have any issue to surround it on the floor of the house. The budget session of the UP Legislature will begin on February 20 and the state budget is likely to be presented on February 22. The Samajwadi Party (SP) had said on February 15 that it would raise the issue of the death of a woman and her daughter allegedly due to self-immolation during an anti-encroachment drive in Kanpur Dehat district in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
SP leaders said that in the budget session of the assembly starting from Monday, there will be a demand for discussion on this matter prominently to get justice to the victims. It is noteworthy that Pramila Dixit (45) and her daughter Neha Dixit (20) allegedly set themselves ablaze in their hut during an anti-encroachment drive in Madauli village under Rura police station area of Kanpur Dehat district on the evening of February 13. Due to which both of them died. His hut was allegedly built on the land of the village society. Both were cremated here on Wednesday amid tight security in the presence of the police.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of the two women. Police have registered an FIR against 39 people, including a sub-district magistrate, four revenue officials, a station house officer and unidentified policemen, following the February 13 incident. SP member in UP Legislative Council Ashutosh Sinha, Congress MLA from Farenda assembly constituency of Maharajganj district Virendra Chowdhary and many leaders of the opposition told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ in separate conversations that the matter of Kanpur Dehat will be raised prominently in the House. There will also be a demand for discussion on the issues of inflation, unemployment and law and order.
Leaders of opposition parties also said that the state government, which recently hosted the ‘Global Investors Summit-2023’ in Lucknow, would also be asked as to what percentage of the investment promises made in the previous meetings have been implemented on the ground. Uma Shankar Singh, the lone member of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the Vidhan Sabha, said that the issue of loss of life of mother-daughter in Kanpur Dehat and the state government not increasing the price of sugarcane will be raised in the Vidhan Sabha. Responding to the views of the opposition parties, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh government Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “The opposition has no issue (to corner the government). As far as the Kanpur Dehat incident is concerned, action has been initiated.” He clearly said that the guilty persons would not be spared and there would be a high-level inquiry against those officials who acted against the directions of the state government.

The budget will bring changes in the lives of the people of the state. On the Kanpur Dehat violence, Pathak said, “The SIT (Special Investigation Team) investigation of the Kanpur Dehat case is already underway. The guilty will be punished.
