Six jail personnel, including the jailer, have been suspended for illegally meeting Ashraf, brother of mafia Atiq Ahmed, in Bareilly jail. On the other hand, departmental action has been recommended against Senior Superintendent of Bareilly Jail Rajiv Kumar Shukla, Jailor Rajiv Kumar Mishra and Deputy Jailor Krishna Murari Gupta. So far nine jail officers and employees have been found guilty in this case.
On the instructions of DG Jail Anand Kumar, DIG Jail Bareilly Range RN Pandey had investigated the episode. Investigation has revealed that in the last several days including February 11, 35-40 people used to come to meet Ashraf in jail. With the connivance of the jail staff, everyone used to meet Ashraf without a prescription. On February 11, on the report of DIG RN Pandey, the DG Jail has suspended Jailor Rajeev Kumar Mishra, supervisory officer for the meeting of the prisoners and Deputy Jailor Durgesh Pratap Singh, who were found prima facie guilty of illegal meeting with Ashraf on February 11. On the other hand, DIG Jail RN Pandey has suspended Head Jail Warder Brajveer Singh, Jail Warder Manoj Gaur, Danish Mehndi and Dalpat Singh. Earlier, the DIG had also suspended Jail Warder Shivhir Awasthi, who was arrested and sent to jail by the Bareilly Police after the matter came to light.
Flaws found in documents
In the investigation, evidence of large-scale manipulation has also been found in the documents of Bareilly Jail. Before and after February 11, 35 to 40 people used to come to meet Ashraf. Bareilly and Prayagraj police will investigate how many of these were family members and gang members. All of them were allowed to move freely in the jail. Only one person’s name was entered in the appointment register. Mentioning this in detail in his report, the DIG has recommended strict action against the guilty jail personnel. Along with this, many suggestions have also been given to increase the monitoring of Ashraf and to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the jail.
