After the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav, in the by-election for Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, people paid tribute to Netaji with their votes, while Dimple Yadav was crowned as Vijayashree. This is SP’s biggest win from Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat after Mulayam Singh Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav.
Since the formation of the Samajwadi Party, the BJP had entered the fray to feed the lotus on the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, which has been a bastion of the SP. While the BJP surrounded the SP on familyism and hooliganism, the SP appealed to the public to vote in the name of tribute to Netaji Mulayam Singh Yadav. Voting took place on November 5 after campaigning for almost a month. In this, the people of Mainpuri forgot everything and voted for SP candidate Dimple Yadav in the name of Netaji.
Mainpuri Sadar Assembly Constituency, Bhogaon Assembly Constituency, Kishni Assembly Constituency, Karhal Assembly Constituency and Jaswantnagar Assembly Constituency included in Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency were all won by SP. While the public paid tribute to Netaji by voting one by one, Dimple Yadav was blessed with Vijayashree.
On the one hand, by making Dimple Yadav win, the public has proved that even after Mulayam, Mainpuri SP will remain a stronghold. On the other hand, it was also the fourth biggest win for SP after Mulayam and Tej Pratap. Earlier in 2004 Mulayam Singh Yadav won by 337870 votes and in 2014 by 364666 votes. Mulayam’s grandson Tej Pratap Yadav also won in the 2014 by-election by 321249 votes. After this the winning figure had reached 94389.
Tribute to Netaji did not work for BJP
Right from the beginning of the Lok Sabha by-elections, the BJP also tried to garner sympathy on the pretext of paying homage to Mulayam. While Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath began his speech with a tribute to Netaji, BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh started his election campaign by offering flowers at Netaji’s tomb. But all this also did not work for the BJP.
