New Delhi: Religion and beliefs have a special place in our country. The organization of Kumbh is also such a huge form of faith. The Mahakumbh, which comes after every 12 years, is recorded in the history books as the world’s largest human gathering. India’s Kumbh Mela has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as the world’s largest peaceful human gathering. The first Maha Kumbh of this century was organized in 2001 and this Kumbh concluded on 21 February on the day of Mahashivaratri. The details of other important events recorded on the date of February 21 in the history of the country and the world are as follows: –

1948: The draft of the constitution of independent India was presented to the President.

1965: Controversial nationalist black leader Malcolm X was assassinated in America. He was shot in front of 400 of his supporters in New York. An organization named Nation of Islam is suspected to be behind the murder.

1972: The then US President Richard P. Nixon visited China and ended the last 21 years of estrangement between the two countries.

1999: UNESCO announced to celebrate February 21 as International Mother Language Day.

1999: Agreement on Lahore Declaration between former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif.

2001: Completion of the first Mahakumbh of the millennium.

2004: Country’s tennis star Sania Mirza made a big achievement by winning the WTA title. She became the first Indian woman player to do so.

2008: Pakistan People’s Party leader Asif Ali Zardari joined hands with Muslim League (N) leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

2013: 17 people killed, more than a hundred people injured in one after the other bomb blasts in Hyderabad. (agency)
