Buffalo. Severe cold continues in many parts of the country due to the deadly storm in America. People in western New York are facing heavy snowfall and the condition is causing flight cancellations and road blockades. At least 48 people have died from the storm in the US. Thousands of homes and businesses are without power. There is a possibility of further increase in the number of dead. About 60 percent of the country’s population is experiencing some form of cold weather advisory or warning.
The National Weather Service said on Sunday that half of the eastern region of the US is in the grip of cold winds. Hurricane-related winds and snow made conditions difficult for Buffalo as well. New York Governor Cathy Hochul said vehicles were seen stranded in the city on Saturday. He appealed to the people to respect the restrictions imposed on vehicular movement in the area.

Officials said the airport would remain closed till Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service said Buffalo Niagara International Airport had a total of 43 inches (1.1 m) of snow as of 7 a.m. Sunday.
Police said Sunday evening that there were two separate incidents of looting during the storm. The circumstances are such that some people are found dead in their cars and some people are found dead on the streets. Officials said that there are also people who are stuck in their cars for more than two days. (agency)
