Thirteen laborers were working while linter was being poured on the roof of a factory in Rupnagar industrial area of Loni, Ghaziabad. Six were on the roof, the rest down below. Then suddenly the walls collapsed and the next moment Linter fell down with a thud. The laborers around started running away screaming. In no time, the building turned into a pile of rubble.
Loud screams of the laborers buried in it were heard, save…save. These screams of 11 laborers kept echoing for about an hour. After this the people around came and they removed the debris and started pulling out the life trapped in the mouth of death. The other two had died. The campaign continued till 11.30 pm.
Jameel, who lives in Rupnagar, told that he was also among the first people to reach as soon as the linter of the roof fell. There many people were buried under the debris. Five people were screaming badly. These were on top of the rubble. These people fell along with the roof. It was very difficult to reach them. Heavy pillars were hanging over them, which could fall anytime. If there was a little more delay in evacuating those five people from there, it would have been difficult to save their lives.
Anything could have happened as soon as the pillar fell. The people around started the rescue operation as soon as the police arrived. People removed stones from the debris by hand and pulled out all five of them. He was taken to the hospital. His life was saved. All five have been referred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
