Saamana | Time to stand up against BJP's 'corruption washing machine': Shiv Sena | Navabharat (New India)

Mumbai: The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction on Monday said the time has come to stand against the “corruption washing machine” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to save the country. At the same time, he cited a letter written by opposition leaders to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which “autocratic rule” has been mentioned. In an editorial published in its mouthpiece Saamana, Shiv Sena (UBT) said that troubling the opposition and staying in power is not auspicious for democracy.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and K. Leaders of nine opposition parties, including Chandrasekhar Rao, have written to the Prime Minister alleging “gross misuse” of central agencies against members of the opposition. The letter from Maharashtra is signed by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray.

Saamana states, “Now the time has come to stand against BJP’s ‘corruption washing machine’ and save the country. Leaders of several opposition parties, including former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, wrote a letter and told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the country is heading towards dictatorship.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader uses the word “washing machine” to attack the BJP for inducting “corrupt” leaders into the party and giving them “protection”.

The editorial said, “The letter states that since the BJP came to power in the country in 2014, there has been an increase in crackdown on opposition leaders, but those facing corruption charges who joined the BJP, He never faced any action. Most of such cases are false.”

It says, “Autonomous government institutions are being privatised. It is more dangerous than Al Qaeda and Taliban. The Election Commission of India bows down to the BJP due to which the Supreme Court has ordered the formation of a three-member committee for its future appointments.

The editorial also referred to ‘Insaaf Ke Sipahi’, a platform started by eminent lawyer Kapil Sibal. The Shiv Sena (UBT) has also questioned the BJP’s criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s speech at Cambridge University. Rahul Gandhi had said that Indian democracy is in danger and many leaders including him are being spied on.

It said, “If he brought the country into disrepute, then one needs to ask whether the speeches made by Narendra Modi during his earlier visits abroad were against Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and their governments.” Didn’t the country get defamed by the claims?” The party alleged that corruption cases against BJP leaders were being suppressed.
