Defying the security arrangements and vigilance of the District Jail at Chaukaghat, a prisoner managed to escape on Saturday. There was a stir as soon as the matter came to the notice of the district jail administration through the police. Along with the police of Lalpur Pandeypur and Cantt police station, the crime branch has been deployed in search of the escaped prisoner.
Raju Singh, a resident of Lalpur, was arrested by the police of Lalpur Pandeypur police station on February 7 last on charges including raping a teenager. After this, he was presented in the court and sent to jail in judicial custody. Raju is also a habitual offender of theft and has six cases registered against him at Lalpur Pandeypur police station on different charges. At present he was lodged in barrack number one of the jail. It is said that the seal which is put on the hands of the relatives and close friends of the prisoners who come to meet the prisoners, Raju did not know how he got the same seal on his hand. When the visitors of the second hour started going out of the jail, he joined their crowd and dodged the jail police personnel and came out. After coming out of jail, he went to the house of the victim who had filed a case under POCSO Act and threatened her to withdraw the case.
