New Delhi. While on one hand there is a demand for ‘Periods Leave’ of women and students across the country today. On the other hand, today the Supreme Court has flatly refused to consider the public interest litigation demanding Menstrual Pain Leave to all working women and students across the country.

In fact, now the Supreme Court has said that this is a policy matter, so the petitioner will have to go to the Central Government and submit a memorandum with his demand.

Please inform that this PIL was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of Shailendra Mani Tripathi, a resident of Delhi. The petition filed by her also sought a direction to the Center and all states to comply with Section 14 of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961.

Let us tell you that period leave was started in India from Bihar. In fact, in the year 1992, Lalu Prasad’s government brought a special leave policy for women. Under this, women get 2 days paid period leave. For this, women had launched a long movement of 32 days, after which they got this right.

On the other hand, in 1997, 7 years after the rule was made in Bihar, Mumbai-based media company Culture Machine started giving 1 day off. After this, in the year 2020, food delivery company Zomato had announced to give period leave.

Currently, only 12 companies in India are giving period leave, including companies like Byju, Swiggy, Malayalam media company Mathrubhumi, Baiju, Wet and Dry, Magzter. On the other hand, in January this year, the Kerala government has also announced period and maternity leave in every university keeping in mind the girl students. Now girl students of Kerala get 2 days leave during periods.
