Navi Mumbai: Municipal Corporation is trying to establish Floating Solar Power Project on the principle of ‘build, use and transfer’ (BOT) on the reservoir of Morbe Dam, but for this project There has been very little response to the tender called. Earlier, tender was called twice, which did not get any response from any company. This time only the tender of IBM Solutions has come for the said work, regarding which the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation administration is in a dilemma whether to accept or reject it. Because of which the said project of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has fallen into disrepair.
Significantly, 80 MW of electricity is required for the operation of Bhokarpada Water Purification Center Project, 27 Jal Kumbhs, street lights, schools, sewerage centers of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. To fulfill this, efforts are being made by the Municipal Corporation to set up a floating solar power project in the area of Morbe reservoir, which has not been possible till now. Earlier, a policy was decided to generate electricity by installing solar power panels on the wall of the said dam, on which the then commissioner Tukaram Mundhe canceled the said project by questioning the safety of the dam and the quality of the project. At that time its cost was around 200 crores.

A tender was floated by the Municipal Corporation for setting up a solar power project on the water of Morbe dam, for which a tender of Rs 500 crore has been filled from the said company. A target of 100 MW power generation has been set from this project. The project will require an area of 500 acres and the consultant says that this requirement is possible from the vast area of water in Morbe. Municipal Corporation has shown readiness to buy the electricity generated from this project at the rate of Rs.3.36 per unit.
Water and electricity will be saved
It is said that considering the possibility of spending Rs 4.5 to 5 per unit for setting up the said project, most of the companies related to energy production are not showing interest in this project. At the same time, there will be very less evaporation of reservoir water from the said project, due to which water will be saved. Due to which there will be double benefit of more water being available to the citizens by the Municipal Corporation. Regarding the said project, the Municipal Administration says that the Municipal Corporation pays more than Rs 100 crore to MSEB on electricity bill every year. Solar power project on BOT will save this and will save 40 percent in public electricity consumption.
