The court of Special Judge (EC Act) Anil Kumar in Varanasi found the accused Bhallar Devi, a resident of Pakki Bazar, Cantt, guilty of abetment to suicide and sentenced him to five years in jail and a fine of five thousand rupees.
According to ADGC Kailash Nath, the plaintiff, Ramashankar lodged a complaint at the Cantt police station on November 12, 2015, alleging that his sister Sunita was married to Bhaiyalal in the year 1997. After marriage, her sister’s mother-in-law Bhallar Devi used to beat and torture her sister. Meanwhile, on November 11, 2015, his brother-in-law called at 10.30 pm and told that his sister’s health was very bad. When he reached the sister-in-law’s house on information, he saw that his sister was lying dead and there was a rope mark on her neck. She firmly believes that her sister has committed suicide in a fit of rage by her mother-in-law’s harassment. After trial, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced him.
