It was told that the alliance has got five seats in the district. At the same time, after the victory, the total number of seats in the RLD has increased to nine.
The by-election was held in Khatauli after the outgoing MLA Vikram Saini lost his membership in the Muzaffarnagar riots case. The BJP had fielded Saini’s wife, the former head of Kawal village, Rajkumari.
On Thursday, the counting of votes took place at the Naveen Mandi site amid tight security. From the very first round itself, the alliance candidate Madan Bhaiya took a lead and till the last round he prevailed over the BJP candidate. People of both the parties stood outside the counting place.
RLD President and Rajya Sabha MP Jayant Singh alone took the front of the by-election. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav did not reach Khatauli to campaign.
Whereas BSP stayed away from the election field. Azad Samaj Party created new equations by supporting the alliance, due to which Madan Bhaiya won.
