Mumbai: Local passengers of Navi Mumbai are going to get a big relief. Local trains will soon start running on the much-awaited Nerul-Belapur-Kharkopar-Uran Rail Corridor. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) test is necessary before the start of this fourth suburban corridor of the Central Railway. Mumbai Division’s DRM Rajneesh Kumar Goyal told that soon after the CRS report, the local train will start on this route.
It is notable that the railway administration had set a target to complete the Belapur-Uran local train project by September 2022, but due to non-availability of funds on time, transfer of land and other reasons, there has been delay on the part of CIDCO. CIDCO’s share in this project is 67 percent, while that of Railways is 33 percent. DRM Goyal said that some minor works were stuck. Efforts are on to fulfill them by contacting the state government.
Double track rail corridor is 26.7 km
It may be noted that Nerul and Kharkopar-Uran are double track rail corridors of a total length of 27 km. The first phase of 12.4 km was opened on 11 November 2018 itself. 40 local services are running on this. Work is in progress on the 14.3 km route up to Kharkopar-Uran. The work at Gavan, Ranjanpada, Nava Sheva, Dronagiri and Uran stations is in its final stage. The introduction of local on the entire corridor will be a major step towards connecting Mumbai to Uran, Nawa Sheva Port and Airport by direct rail route.

Development of 15 stations
DRM said that for the convenience of local passengers in Mumbai, the improvement work of suburban stations is also going on fast. 15 stations are being developed under the Amrit Bharat Yojana. There is a target to set up 20 new accelerators this year. Along with this, emphasis is also being laid on solar power.
