Lal Yash Dayal of Sangamnagari is in his city Prayagraj these days. Yash Dayal’s life has been full of struggles, rising from the narrow streets of Chakia Karbala to make it to the Indian Premium League and the Indian cricket team. In the special meeting with him on Sunday, many aspects related to cricket were discussed. Here are the highlights of the conversation with him….

How was the journey from Prayagraj to the Indian team?
This journey has been full of ups and downs. Morale broke many times. Encouraged by small successes. Played cricket as a passion and saw cricket as his career with all sincerity. There are sweet and sour memories. Family, coaches and UPCA gave a lot of encouragement. There was no let down in his hard work, stubbornness and passion. Finally very close to what I had dreamed of. The dream of playing wearing the jersey of the Indian team was about to be fulfilled that God thought it better to wait a little longer. Well, now I am working towards fulfilling this dream by keeping myself fit.

How was the experience of the first edition of IPL, what is the preparation for this time.
IPL is a big platform, where it is not easy to reach. My first edition has been wonderful. There are many big players who want to lift the IPL trophy but their dream remains unfulfilled. I am fortunate to have been a part of the winning team of IPL for the first time and have also contributed to the victory of that team.

seeing whom you became a cricketer

My interest in cricket was awakened by seeing my father. My father has been an AGUP player. The atmosphere of cricket has been in my house since the beginning. Seeing my interest in cricket, my father taught me the nuances of cricket. He has been my first coach. My father has played the biggest role in making me a cricketer.

How has been your struggle?
I still learn cricket every day. I remember complaining to my father when I could not get to bowl on the field. My father opened his own academy and said now do as much bowling as you want. He himself used to play with me. Many times when I was disappointed and talked about giving up cricket, only family and friends would encourage me. When he was selected in the UP Under-21 team and started playing professional cricket, he decided not to look back.

what players do you like
I have always considered Zaheer Khan as my idol since childhood. He used to try to improve his own bowling by watching his bowling. Apart from this, I have learned a lot by watching Yuvraj Singh, Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli.

Which player helps you the most
I get maximum help from Ashish Nehra sir. He inspires me a lot. He stands by me for bowling as well as for any kind of help. I have learned a lot from him. He stands by me like a mentor and guardian.

Dreaming of getting a player out.
I want to get Andre Russell and Rohit Sharma out. I like both these batsmen and I want to bowl them both.

What is the suggestion for the new players who are dreaming of becoming a cricketer in Prayagraj.
New players should do justice to their game with honesty. Hard work is the first step to success, if you want to become a cricketer then don’t work hard for one day or one match, but take each day as a challenge and continue your hard work.

To whom would you like to give the credit of your success?
My family has been the biggest contributor in getting me here. Especially father gave me his own bike to go to the stadium and started going to office by bus. When I used to go out of town to play cricket, my mother used to wait for me till late night. She used to eat food with me only after I came. Sister used to pay attention to my diet. The contribution of all these has been in reaching me here. Nanaji, elder father and coaches Kaushik Pal and Amit Pal all had faith in me.

The injury bothered you a lot, what are you doing to overcome it?
I am paying special attention to my fitness. Practicing for hours everyday. Will return to the field soon after getting fit. My mother and sister are more concerned about me than me.

How did you react when you were informed that you have been ruled out of the Bangladesh tour?
It was a big shock. Tears came out. The dream that I had seen since childhood, when the time came for the fulfillment of that dream, it happened. Mother, father, sister and friends gave a lot of encouragement by calling. Father motivated as a coach. As always my family gave me strength. Now again I have started running after my dream.

What is your most memorable moment or match?
All my matches are important for me, but talking about the most memorable match, I will always remember the first match of IPL. Even I myself did not expect such a great performance in the first match. Spent a few runs but getting wickets was a great performance. Apart from this, I will always remember the final match of IPL. Holding the IPL trophy in hand is one of the most memorable moments.

What would have happened if Yash Dayal had not been a cricketer?
Laughing……….At first I didn’t think of anything other than cricket, but if I had not become a cricketer, I would have definitely become a CA.

What have you thought to promote cricket in Prayagraj
Absolutely thought. I want more players to emerge from my city and bring laurels. I try to be successful and do something for my city. There is no dearth of talent here.
