Now a report by The Lancet has added to India’s concern. The latest Lancet report claims that India is among the top ten countries with the highest prevalence of type 1 diabetes. This report is a matter of concern for India.

Indeed, according to a study published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology Journal, 8.4 million people worldwide were living with type 1 diabetes by 2021 and India is among the top ten countries with the highest prevalence of the disease. is one of the. Researchers said in their study that by 2040, the number of people suffering from type 1 diabetes will reach 13.5 to 17.4 million people.

This figure came out in the report

The researchers modeled data on childhood, adolescent and adult T1D prevalence in 97 countries, as well as data over time from 65 countries. The model estimated that in 2021, 8.4 million people worldwide were living with T1D. Of these individuals, 18 per cent were below 20 years of age, 64 per cent were between 20-59 years and 19 per cent were above 60 years of age.

The number of diabetes patients by 2040

Professor Graham Ogle from the University of Sydney said that by 2040, the number of people with T1D diabetes in all countries is projected to increase to 17.5 million. He said the coming decades have an opportunity to save millions of lives by raising the standard of care for T1D and raising awareness of the symptoms of T1D, to enable 100% prevention rates in all countries.
