There is confusion among the people regarding the celebration of Holi this year in Varanasi. Scholars are giving different arguments regarding when Holi will be celebrated in Banaras. Amid confusion over the date of Holi, the festival of colors will be celebrated for two days in Varanasi. Somewhere there will be colors and somewhere there will be Holi of flowers. Various events will also be held on both the days. In some parts of the city where preparations are on for Holika Dahan after the midnight of March 6.
At the same time, preparations for Holika Dahan are going on in some parts on the evening of March 7. In Varuna Par area, Holika Dahan will be done in most of the places on the evening of March 7 at dusk. In the rural areas around Varanasi too, Holika Dahan will take place on the evening of March 7 and Holi will be celebrated on March 8.
In Varanasi, on the second day of Holika Dahan, preparations are on to celebrate the festival of Holi on March 7 in the urban area due to the tradition of visiting Chausaththi Devi. Due to the value of Chaitra Krishna Pratipada on Udaya Tithi on March 8, the festival of Holi will be celebrated in the surrounding villages and areas beyond Varuna, leaving the city.
