High Court: Public interest litigation to follow the order of idol immersion of Maa Durga in an artificial pond on the banks of the Ganges

The court has sought information from the District Magistrate Prayagraj on a public interest litigation filed in the Allahabad High Court seeking permission to immerse Maa Durga idol in an artificial pond on the banks of the Ganges. The hearing of the petition will take place on September 28. Earlier, on a public interest litigation filed by Bengali Welfare Association secretary Dr. PK Rai and social worker Yogendra Kumar Pandey, the court had directed the local administration to make arrangements for immersion of idols in an artificial pond on the banks of the Ganges. which is not being followed. The Public Interest Litigation of Dr. PK Rai and others was heard by the Division Bench of Justice Pritinkar Diwakar and Justice JJ Munir. Advocates Vijay Chandra Srivastava and Sunita Sharma argued the petition.

The court directed the government advocate to take information from the district administration and inform the court within a week. The next hearing of the case has been fixed for 28 September 22. The petitioner says that the idol immersion used to take place in Saraswati Ghat earlier. But, in the year 2014, there should be no pollution in the Ganga and Yamuna, the court has decided to make artificial ponds on the banks of the Ganges in 26 districts of the state where the Ganges flows and mainly in Prayagraj and immersion of idols of Maa Durga as per the norms of pollution control board. And in the year 2015, on the Public Interest Litigation of Dr. PK Rai, the idols were immersed by making an artificial pond on the banks of the Ganges on the black road under the dam.

Till 2018, the idols were immersed in an artificial pond on the banks of the Ganges and in violation of its order, the idols were immersed in the Andawan pond. Regarding which a contempt petition is also pending against the then District Magistrate Bhanu Chandra Goswami. The mother comes in the form of a daughter on the first day of Navratri and after the immersion, the Durga Puja ceremony ends with the collection of Shanti water.
