GST Survey: Rumors ran fast from GST officers in Agra, markets closed, fear of raids among traders


On Monday, the Chief Minister ordered to stop the State GST survey in Agra, which has been going on for a week, but before that, markets were closed in more places than where the State GST officers went for raids since morning. Rumors spread faster than the officers, in which many markets were closed even where the State GST team did not reach. Even after the order of the Chief Minister in the afternoon, the scared traders did not open the markets till evening. In the evening, the officials of the Board of Trade appealed to the committees to open the markets, after which the shutters of the shops in the markets were opened.

Shops did not open in markets including Shahganj, Belanganj, Chatta, Cantonment, Naulakkha, Rui Ki Mandi, Ramnagar, Runkata, Fatehabad on Monday. The rumor of State GST raids at these places went viral. The shopkeepers who opened the shutters in the morning, put the locks again at 11 o’clock, telling the survey of the State GST officers. Within minutes, news of the raids spread through the city’s markets, after which the markets were closed. In markets including Shahganj, Rui Keymandi, Soron Katra, Sangeeta Talkies, Ramnagar, Bodla, shopkeepers did not open shops fearing raids.

President of Agra Vyapar Mandal TN Aggarwal inquired about the survey being conducted in Agra from Commissioner GST Grade 1. The commissioner told that the government has banned the survey. TN Aggarwal told the traders not to be afraid, he is not a criminal. Don’t close the shops. The Chief Minister’s order has come in the afternoon, so there will be no raids now.

Additional Commissioner Grade 1 Ajay Kumar Singh said that traders should not panic. Will not harass any honest businessman. Action is being taken only against those against whom the department has strong evidence of tax evasion. He said that traders should keep shops and markets open, the department will cooperate and not harass.

In Fatehabad also, on the rumor of GST department’s raid, the markets of Sadar Bazar, Jamuna Gali, Bajaria, Galla Mandi, Agra Road were closed on Monday. On Sunday, the traders of Fatehabad gheraoed MLA Chhote Lal Verma in protest against the GST raid and handed over a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

The entire market had opened in Runkata by 11:00 am on Monday. Only then someone spread a rumor that the GST team is crying. The entire market closed on this. From hardware to small shopkeepers, chaiwalas and motorcycle repairmen, they closed their shops and fled due to fear.
