Black cataract is taking away the eyesight of the patients. People who ignore cataract are becoming victims of this disease. The number of patients suffering from glaucoma in BRD Medical College has increased rapidly in the last one year. Earlier, where 10 percent patients used to come every month, now this number has increased to 20 to 25 percent. Five percent of these patients are losing their eyesight.

According to information, about 200 cataract operations are performed every month in BRD Medical College. Of these, 25 to 30 patients are found suffering from black cataract. Apart from these, 10-12 percent patients are treated by giving medicines. In the language of doctors, this disease is also called Glaucoma.

Dr. Ram Kumar Jaiswal, Head of Department of Ophthalmology, BRD Medical College said that black cataract is a very dangerous disease. Patients do not see any symptoms in this disease. This is the reason why the eyesight of the patients goes away in this disease.

In glaucoma there is pressure on the nerves of the eyes (optic nerve), due to which they suffer a lot. Due to constant pressure, the supply of blood does not reach the nerve, due to which the nerve gets destroyed. Information and images reach the brain through this optic nerve. If the pressure on the optic nerve and other parts of the eye is not reduced, then the eyesight goes away.

Once the eyesight is lost due to black cataract, then it does not get light again. Told that 40 to 45 year old youths are also falling prey to this disease. Three to four youths have been found, whose eyesight has gone more than 70 percent. His surgery also cannot be done now. He is being treated with medicine.

There are five types of black cataract

Dr. Ram Kumar Jaiswal told that there are five types of black cataract. The first is primary or open angle glaucoma, angle closure glaucoma, low tension or normal tension glaucoma, congenital glaucoma and secondary glaucoma. Told that most patients of open angle glaucoma are found in Purvanchal. Every month 25 to 30 patients are coming for the treatment of black cataract. Five percent of these patients are also losing their eyesight.

Due to delay in treatment, patients lose their eyesight. Severe pain in eyes and head. Weak or blurred vision. Redness of eyes Colored rings appearing around the lights. Symptoms like nausea and vomiting are found.
