The demand for making Omaxe Realcon a party in the public interest litigation of Ganga pollution case and hearing of objections on banning construction up to 500 meters from the highest flood point of Ganga has been accepted. However, petitioner advocates Vijay Chandra Srivastava and Sunita Sharma opposed it. Said that due to construction on the banks of Ganga-Yamuna, there will be no land left for organizing Magh Mela and Kumbh Mela held every year. The city will come under the grip of flood. The Magh Mela authority should declare it as a fair area. Senior Advocate Vijay Bahadur Singh argued on behalf of Omaxe Company. They say that the state mandate has banned construction only up to 200 meters from the banks of the Ganges.

The High Court order has banned construction up to 500 meters without legal basis. Due to this, the company’s plan of crores of rupees to provide housing to the people is not being fully implemented. The PIL is being heard by a full bench of Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice MK Gupta and Justice Ajit Kumar. In the case of Ganga pollution, advocate Shailesh Singh raised the problem of Biber jam. Municipal Corporation Prayagraj’s advocate SD Kautilya said, with the help of police, the corporation is busy in implementing the order banning the use of polythene. But after some time people start using it again. If the government stops manufacturing polythene, then there will be no need for action.

Expressing concern, the court said that sewers and drains are getting blocked due to the use of polythene. Polythene bottles are spreading pollution in Ganga Yamuna. The court has ordered law students doing internships in various existing colleges and young advocates registered in 2022 to prepare and present a report on the purchase and sale of polythene by traders in their area. On behalf of the State Government, Additional Advocate General Ajit Kumar Singh, Government of India Advocate Rajesh Tripathi, Central Jal Nigam Advocate Bal Mukund Singh and State Pollution Control Board Advocate Dr. Hari Nath Tripathi presented their side. The petition will be heard on Thursday also from 2 pm.
