The victory of BJP candidate Devendra Pratap Singh from Gorakhpur-Faizabad graduation constituency is a big message for the civic body elections to be held in the state. By winning the biggest victory from this seat, Devendra has shown that he has deep penetration in the enlightened class of Purvanchal. After winning the election of MLC four times, now his stature has also become one of the big leaders. He can get a big responsibility in the party before the Lok Sabha elections.
Devendra Pratap Singh, the product of student politics of Gorakhpur University, has been active in politics for the last 36 years. Devendra Pratap Singh, who was recognized as a strong leader due to his militancy, first contested in 1986 from Gorakhpur-Faizabad seat. Although, he had to face defeat, but he made this seat his workplace.
In 1992 also he could not win the election. But, fought on SP ticket in 1998 and reached the House for the first time. This was the period when Devendra made his hold from village to village. For the last three times, he has been winning the elections continuously, in which MLC has been made under the banner of BJP for two times. The victory this time is the biggest victory in the history of Gorakhpur-Faizabad seat. He is the only MLC who has made his political power felt by winning the first preference for the first time.
