On the instructions of State Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Mahavitaran has started an initiative for ‘Ease of Living’, under which electricity meter will be automatically transferred in the name of new owner on purchase of old house or shop etc. Stamp duty and registry department has been linked with Mahavitaran’s IT system. As soon as someone buys an old house or shop and gets it registered in his name, the information about it will be automatically received by Mahavitaran.
Mahavitaran will then send an SMS to the new owner asking him to deposit the necessary processing fee which can also be paid online. After paying the fee, the next electricity bill will be sent in the name of the new owner. If there is more than one owner, then Mahavitaran has given the option of selecting the name of any one. As soon as this new process is implemented, now the customer who bought the old property will not have to visit the office to get the meter done in his name. For implementing this system, Fadnavis has also congratulated Vijay Singhal, Chairman and Administrative Director of Mahavitaran.
Earlier the process was complicated
The process of transferring the name of the meter on purchase of old house or shop etc. was quite complicated. After the registration of the property, the old owner had to make an independent application to meter in the name of the new owner. After that all the papers had to be submitted. After paying the processing fee, the verification was done by the employee of Mahavitaran and even after that the name transfer used to take a long time. Singhal told that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message is ‘Ease of Living’ and according to that the DCM and Energy Minister Fadnavis had given instructions to implement the scheme. Work on this project was started from October and now customers are getting the benefit of this new facility.
