New Delhi: The Congress on Monday targeted the central government over the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) raids at several places in Chhattisgarh and said it was not going to bow down to the politics of vendetta and harassment. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh also questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “favourite industrialist” Gautam Adani is not being investigated even though his “illegal deeds” are coming to the fore daily. He told reporters, “This is the politics of vengeance and harassment. Three days before our convention, many comrades’ places were raided. We are not going to bow down to this politics of intimidation. Ramesh said, “We will have a plenary session. This action is a booster dose for us. We are not afraid.”

Referring to the case related to the Adani group, he questioned, “The biggest scam in our country is in which the Prime Minister himself is involved. The illegal activities of Prime Minister’s favorite industrialist Gautam Adani are coming to the fore everyday. Why is it not investigated? Ramesh said, “The change we have brought through ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ will remain.” He said, “This is not amritkal, it is an undeclared emergency.” Pawan Kheda, the head of the media department of the Congress, claimed that 95 percent of the ED raids conducted since 2014 were aimed at opposition parties and their leaders.

He alleged that for the Modi government, ED means ‘eliminating democracy’. Khera said that Prime Minister Modi is nervous about the success of ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. He asked, “Prime Minister, why don’t you get your best friend investigated?” Why was there no investigation against Himanta Vishwa Sharma, BS Yediyurappa and some other leaders?” Khera said, “We have governments in many states. 2024 is coming, the seasons change.

In such a situation, we want to say that consider our decency as our jewel, do not consider it as our weakness. It is noteworthy that the ED on Monday raided several places in Chhattisgarh, including premises linked to Congress leaders, as part of the ongoing probe in the coal levy money laundering case. The officers provided this information. The raids took place ahead of the three-day plenary session of the Congress from February 24-26 in the state capital Raipur. The state has a Congress government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. (agency)
