Cheetahs brought from Namibia on the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been released in the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. Since then, cheetahs have been the subject of discussion across the country. Talk about Bharatpur in Rajasthan, there is also a family here, which before independence used to raise cheetahs like a pet with a leash around their neck.

A cheetah-rearing family lives near the Ganga temple in the main market of Bharatpur city. The name of that street is also recorded in the government records as Cheetah Wali Gali. Before independence in Bharatpur, cheetahs were kept as pets in this family. From the year 1936 to 1945, the cheetah was always tied at the gate of Moti Mahal, the residence of Bharatpur royal family.

When the Cheetah Wali Gali located in Chauburja Bazar of the city was inspected, it was seen that the nameplates outside the house of the family living there were prominently written after the name of Cheetah. Along with this, a board of cheetah street was also placed at the entrance of the street.

This family also has ancient photographs from the princely period, in which their ancestors are seen with cheetahs. Sultan Khan, who lived in Cheetah Wali Gali, told that his father Dr Ghulam Hussain was considered a skilled hunter. Whenever Maharaja Krishna Singh of Bharatpur used to go hunting, he used to take his father along with him.

Sultan Khan told that when his father used to go out in the market, the cheetah was always with him. He said that cheetahs used to roam in the houses in such a way that nowadays dogs and cats are kept in the houses. He told that his father used to go out with a cheetah even in the Maharaja’s ride on the occasion of Dussehra.
