New Delhi: Today is the birthday of former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa (Robin Uthappa Birthday). He was born on this day in 1985 in Kodagu in Karnataka, India. Robin turns 37 today. Apart from being a batsman, he is also a wicketkeeper. He used to play for Kerala in domestic cricket. Robin has also represented Team India in ODIs and T20s. Robin currently plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

Robin Uthappa’s father is Venu Uthappa, a Kodava Hindu. Venu Uthappa is a former hockey umpire. While Robin’s mother Rosalyn is a Malayali. Robin got married to his longtime girlfriend Sheela Gautam in March 2016. Robin got his education from Shri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College.
2005 started playing cricket
Robin scored 66 runs for India B against India A in the Challenger Trophy in 2005. The following year, in the same tournament, Robin scored a 93-ball 100 against the same team and won the match. Earlier, he was a member of India’s Under-19 team that won the Asia Cup. Once a wicket-keeper and batsman, his List A batting average of close to 40 and a strike rate of around 90 made him regarded as a limited overs cricket specialist.

Robin made his One Day International debut in April 2006 in the seventh and final match of the English tour of India. He was run out as an opener before being dismissed for 86. This was the highest score for an Indian debutante in a limited overs match. He has been nicknamed ‘The Walking Assassin’ for his strategy of charging the bowler. Robin played a key role in India’s victory in the 2007 ICC World 20-20. He ended the 2014–15 Ranji Trophy season as the highest run-scorer in that season and was also the highest run-scorer in the IPL that year.

Robin was recalled to the ODI squad for the series against West Indies in January 2007. He did not perform in the first two matches. He scored 70 runs in the third game and 28 in the fourth game. In the sixth ODI of the NatWest Series 2007–2008, he scored 47 runs in 33 balls to lead India to a thrilling victory.
