Importance

According to the legend, Brahma Dev had originated from the navel of Lord Vishnu for the creation of the universe. Brahma Dev did not know the purpose of his origin. They wanted to know how he was born? What is the reason for birth? He had many types of questions in his mind, to answer them he started austere penance.

He did penance for many years to please Lord Vishnu. One day Lord Vishnu was pleased with him and appeared to him. Brahma ji’s tears started flowing after seeing Lord Vishnu. Amla tree was born from those tears of Brahma Dev. Describing the Amla tree as a Dev tree, Lord Vishnu said that Gods and Goddesses will reside in this tree.

Whoever worships him under the Amla tree and observes a fast. All his sins will be erased and he will attain salvation and become the owner of heaven. Since then, every year on Shukla Ekadashi of Phalgun month, Amalaki Ekadashi fast was observed and Amla tree was worshipped. Amla tree is also worshiped on the day of Amla Navami.
