In a major relief to former Union Minister of State for Home Swami Chinmayanand, the Allahabad High Court on Monday granted him anticipatory bail in the rape case against his disciple. This order has been passed by Justice DK Singh on the petition of Swami Chinmayanand. The court, while accepting the anticipatory bail application of Swamy, has directed him to cooperate in the investigation.
In the year 2011, a disciple of Swami Chinmayanand filed a rape case against Swami Chinmayanand in Shahjahanpur Kotwali. In this case, the Yogi government had recommended the withdrawal of the case registered against Chinmayanand in 2018. From the lower court to the High Court and the Supreme Court, this decision of the UP government was rejected. The court did not accept the order of withdrawal of the case as correct. Apart from this, a non-bailable warrant was issued against Swami Chinmayanand.
In order to avoid arrest, the former Union Minister of State for Home filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court demanding anticipatory bail. The former minister had cited his illness as the ground to avoid arrest in the petition. The court granted anticipatory bail on the grounds of illness and other grounds. In its decision, the court has directed Swami Chinmayanand to cooperate in the investigation.
