Congress Presidential Election: The race for the post of Congress President has become interesting. Three-time MP from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, Shashi Tharoor, who has indicated that he will enter the elections, met Sonia Gandhi on Monday morning. The news came that Tharoor sought permission from party president Sonia Gandhi to contest the election and she got the nod.
Clarifying the party’s stand on these claims, General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that whoever wants to contest the election is not only free for it but is also welcome. This has always been the stand of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. It is a democratic and transparent process. No one needs anyone’s permission to contest elections.
Trying to persuade Rahul Gandhi
On the other hand, most of the state committees of Congress are passing a resolution to make Rahul Gandhi the party president again. This resolution was first passed by the Rajasthan Congress. After this, in the meeting of the state representatives in the states like Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Bengal, Maharashtra, Bihar, UP, etc., the “Rahul Lao” resolution was passed. However, the suspense remains on whether Rahul Gandhi will submit his nomination to this pressure or not.
Will Ashok Gehlot become the CM of Rajasthan?
Sources say that if Rahul Gandhi is not ready to return to the post of President, then Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will finally file his nomination for this post. According to sources, Sonia Gandhi had discussed this with him a few weeks ago. However, Gehlot clearly believes that Rahul Gandhi should become the Congress President.
How will Shashi Tharoor compete?
It has to be seen that if Rahul Gandhi does not agree, will there be a contest between Ashok Gehlot and Shashi Tharoor for the post of Congress President? By the way, everyone has an idea of how much Tharoor will be able to challenge Gehlot. The real challenge for Gehlot will be how to put his stamp on the CM’s chair in Rajasthan after taking over as the party chief in Delhi, which Sachin Pilot has been eyeing for a long time.
The nomination for the Congress Presidential Election will run from September 24 to 30. Voting will be held on October 17 and results will be out on October 19. There is every possibility that after 24 years a leader outside the Gandhi family is going to take the reins of the Congress.
