After this, Gehlot became a member of the 11th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly in February 1999 after winning from Sardarpura (Jodhpur) assembly constituency.
After this his journey continued and he won the assembly elections in 2003, 2008 and 2013. After this, Gehlot came to the 15th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly by winning from Sardarpura assembly constituency in 2018.

A sample of Ashok Gehlot’s magic was seen in 2020, when party leader and then deputy CM Sachin Pilot revolted. For a long time, the tension between the two increased so much that Sachin Pilot reached Haryana with his supporting MLAs. Here the BJP-ruled government also provided him security. Despite all this, Ashok Gehlot did not give up and he again proved that he is a clever player of politics.
Sachin Pilot was accompanied by 17 MLAs who rebelled, after which the small parties and independent MLAs who supported the Congress were in danger of breaking up. Had even 10 of these MLAs broken, the Gehlot government could have fallen. But Gehlot did not let this happen. No MLA spat till the floor test. He challenged the pilot till the last moment and told that he had nothing in his hands. In the end, the pilot had to return after conceding defeat. This was seen as a big victory for Gehlot.
