Voting in Gujarat today;  Saurashtra-Kutch and South Bhaganth polling will be held in the first phase


Ahmedabad : Voting for the first phase of Gujarat assembly elections is going on today, Thursday. Voting will be held for 89 seats in Saurashtra-Kutch and 19 districts in the southern part of the state. For this, 788 candidates have entered the election ring.

Voting will be held on 14 thousand 382 polling stations from 8 am to 5 pm on Thursday. The State Chief Electoral Officer’s office informed about this through a request. In the elections held in 2017, BJP won 48 out of 89 constituencies that went to polls in the first phase. 40 seats came to Congress party and one Jagevar party candidate would have won. Apart from BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party, 36 other political parties have fielded their candidates. Bahujan Samajwadi Party, Samajwadi Party, Marxist Communist Party, Indian Tribal Party are included in this.

Demand for Congress action on opinion polls

New Delhi : The Congress on Wednesday demanded the Election Commission to take action on the ‘awarded opinion polls’ shown by some TV channels in the middle of the first phase of the Gujarat assembly elections. The party’s delegation met the senior officials of the Commission and submitted their submissions on the subject. The delegation included Vivek Tankha, head of the legal wing of the party, MPs Rajeev Shukla and Syed Nasir Hussain, and Congress spokesperson Supriya Srinate. The figures are shown as published in some circle or channel. The result of this should be electoral. We have approached the Election Commission about this,’ Tankha said. And Congress spokesperson Supriya Srinate alleged that, some news channels are trying to influence the voters in some way without state-wise figures. Action should be taken against those who do this, the Congress has demanded the same.

‘You will not be able to open your account’

Ahmedabad : Heeding the call given by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Gujarat Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Arvind Kejriwal-led party may not be able to open their accounts in the elections. At the same time, the assurance given by the Gujarat BJP state to establish an anti-extremism cell is a good step. He also underlined that other states and the Center may consider it.
