Points related to seismology were discussed in the workshop organized at the Department of Geophysics of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). During this, BHU’s Prof. GP Singh said that to be safe from earthquakes, we have to live with nature.
In the inaugural session of the seven-day workshop on new research in seismology and development of early warning system for earthquakes, Prof. GP Singh said that earthquake is a natural process. Whose prediction is not possible by humans or science. Scientists across the country are in the process of developing earthquake early warnings.

Former Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University, Shillong and Mizoram University, Prof. Amarnath Rai highlighted the seismic disaster in the present scenario. Said that the Northeast falls in Earthquake Zone 2. Small and big earthquakes often occur here. The public and the government are very conscious about this. No major calamity ever comes because of an earthquake.

The coordinator of the workshop and Dr. Rohtash of the Department of Geophysics said that in the seven-day workshop, 25 students of post graduation and PhD will be given information about seismic studies as well as research, seismic software analysis, plate tectonics and data processing etc.

Along with this, seismic data, earthquake intensity, effect and their standard will be explained by high quality software. Assistant Professor Dr. Anand Singh of IIT-Mumbai, Earthquake Scientist Prof. from IIT-Roorkee participated in the programme. ML Sharma and Dr. Ranjit Das from University of Chile, South America. During this, many people including Assistant Professor Sandeep Arora, Dr. Virendra Pratap, Satya Prakash, Raghav Singh, Aqib Ali of the Department of Geophysics were present.
