Evidence of human race has been found five thousand to 50 thousand years old at three places in Chandauli district of UP. During excavation and search, stone stupas of Emperor Ashoka’s period have been found in Kothi hill, Buddha and Bodhisattva in Bhikhampur and Palaeolithic tools and rock shelters have been found in Daudpur.
According to Paramdeep Patel, a research student of the Department of Ancient Indian History Culture and Archeology of Kashi Hindu University (BHU), many archaeological sites are being found in Chandauli district in the survey. In the survey, many ancient sites have been found from the point of view of archaeological importance in Ferozepur, Bhikhampur and Daudpur villages of Chakia tehsil of Chandauli district.
First stone stupa of North India
Among these, the stone stupa found in the Kothi hill of Firozpur village is very important. Along with this, a large number of Palaeolithic tools, Mesolithic tools, megalithic tombs and painted rock shelters have been found from here. Their estimated time sequence is believed to be from five thousand to 50 thousand years ago.
