The traffic system in Varanasi collapsed on Sunday evening on Christmas. The entire cantonment area from Andhrapul, Nadesar remained in the grip of jam. DCP Varuna Zone’s vehicle also got stuck in the jam. DCP Aarti Singh got down from the vehicle and got rid of the jam. The area of Varuna zone remained in the grip of jam till night. On the other hand, tourists got stuck in jam from Godaulia to the church.
The entire area was in the grip of jam due to the route diversion to control the crowd that gathered in the cantonment-based Grand Church. The long line of vehicles from Andhrapul to Nadesar remained till late evening. People took more than half an hour to reach Nadesar from Andhrapul.
The traffic system came to a standstill due to the arrival of outside crowd in the cantonment area. The situation was such that even in the streets, bikes and e-rickshaws kept jamming for a long time. On the Chaukaghat-Ghousabad road too, the commuters had to face a lot of problems due to heavy traffic.
The traffic police and policemen of the local police station worked hard to make the traffic smooth. On the other hand, there was traffic jam at Rampura Square, Godaulia and Church Square from evening till night.
