The initial process of construction of country’s first public transport ropeway in Varanasi will start from February. First of all the ropeway route will be vacated. Electric poles, transformers, trees etc. will be removed. Its blueprint has been prepared. According to the information, the work of line shifting of public facilities will start in the route from Cantt to Godaulia in February.
For this, Rs 173 crore has been demanded from the government. The process of acquisition of the land identified for the route is also going on. 1.59 hectares of land is to be acquired for the construction of 3.75 km long ropeway from Cantt Railway Station to Godaulia intersection. VDA Vice President Abhishek Goyal told that first of all line shift of public facilities will be done. After this the construction will start.
Nine thousand people will travel in one hour
Nine thousand people will be able to travel on the ropeway from both the directions within an hour. The distance of the proposed route from Cantt to Godaulia is 3.75 kms. It will take 17 minutes to cover this distance. For this, preparations have been made to install 218 cable cars. People will get cable cars within one and a half to two minutes.
