Kolkata: An awkward situation prevailed at Howrah station on Friday when a visibly incensed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to sit on the platform from where the Vande Bharat Express for New Jalpaiguri departed. The green signal had to be shown.

Banerjee appeared troubled by the loud sloganeering by a section of the crowd at the railway station. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and Governor C.V. Anand Bose made attempts to pacify Banerjee which failed and the Chief Minister sat down on a chair in front of the dais.
