Allahabad University campus kept burning for three hours in the fire of anger that broke out after students were beaten up in Prayagraj. Pushing the police, the mob of furious students pelted bricks and stones on different buildings as well as the offices of the officers. Along with the glasses of doors and windows, pots, furniture was also broken. After this the arson started. Around 3.30 pm, a scuffle started with student leader Vivekanand Pathak at the Union Hall. It is alleged that after five to 10 minutes, the guards armed with batons, iron rods and weapons attacked the students. There was an outcry. Hearing this, the students standing outside the Union Hall gate ran inside. Meanwhile, on getting the information, a large number of students gathered there in no time and then chased away the guards.
Along with giving information, called the companions. Due to this, a large number of students gathered there in no time. By then the Colonelganj police had reached the spot. Meanwhile, the angry students started vandalizing the car parked in front of the delegation.
When the information was received, DCP Nagar Santosh Kumar Meena reached with the force of several police stations of the city and tried to convince the students. But to no avail and the students started raising slogans and tried to move forward reaching near the Union building.
Pushed by the police, defiantly moved ahead
By then Additional Police Commissioner Akash Kulhari had also reached. He started talking to the students and in the meantime some students started moving forward challenging their colleagues.
He also had a scuffle with the policemen when they tried to stop him. But the police looked helpless in front of the crowd of students and while pushing the jawans, the students started moving forward pelting bricks and stones.
