The court clarified that there is no statutory immunity for journalists in India from disclosing their sources to investigative agencies. The court rejected the closure report filed by the CBI in which it could not complete the investigation in a case of alleged forgery. Because the journalists who published and circulated the allegedly forged document refused to disclose the source.
