United Nations : The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution accusing the Taliban of violating the human rights of Afghan women and girls. He accused the Taliban of failing to establish a representative government and putting the country in a “serious economic, humanitarian and social situation”.
The resolution also referred to the continuing violence in the country since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan 15 months ago and to terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda and Islamic State, as well as “foreign terrorist fighters”. Germany’s ambassador to the United Nations, Antje Leindertse, had expressed hope that the 193-member General Assembly would unanimously pass the resolution proposed by Germany.

This proposal was approved by 116 members. Ten countries, including Russia, China, Belarus, Burundi, North Korea, Ethiopia, Guinea, Nicaragua, Pakistan and Zimbabwe, abstained from voting on the resolution. 67 countries did not vote.
