Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that President Draupadi Murmu will participate in the ‘Tribal Pride Day’ program to be organized in Shahdol district on Tuesday. Shivraj told reporters in Bhopal on Sunday that the Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA) will also be officially implemented in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday in the interest of the tribal community.
The government had last year declared November 15 as ‘Tribal Pride Day’ to mark the birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda and to remember the contribution of tribal freedom fighters. The PESA Act-1996 was formulated with the active participation of the Gram Sabha to prevent exploitation of the tribal population. The Act gives special powers to the Gram Sabhas in the Scheduled Areas, especially for the management of natural resources.

A senior official said the rules under the Act have been finalized and will be implemented in the state on November 15. Shivraj said, ‘There will be a state-level Tribal Pride Day program in the presence of President Draupadi Murmu in Lalpur village of Shahdol district.’ The Chief Minister along with senior officials reviewed the preparations related to the President’s visit at Lalpur village.
