BJP candidate Akash Saxena defeated SP candidate Asim Raja by more than 33,000 votes in the by-election held after the cancellation of Azam Khan’s legislature. Akash Saxena has demolished the Azam Khan fort in Rampur after defeating the SP candidate.
BJP won the 20th election Till now Rampur assembly seat has been considered as Azam Khan’s bastion. There have been 18 elections and two by-elections on this seat. In these elections, Azam Khan has won 10 times and in one by-election, his wife Dr. Tazin Fatma has won. In the 20th election held on this seat, the BJP has won. This is the first time since 2002 that the seat will not be represented by Azam Khan or any member of his family.
