In connection with the investigation of SSC recruitment scam in West Bengal, a special CBI court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of former state minister Partha Chatterjee and sent him and three others to judicial custody till October 5. sent. The three people who have been sent to judicial custody along with Partha Chatterjee include Kalyanmoy Ganguly, former chairman of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, Ashok Saha, former secretary of the West Bengal School Service Commission and its former advisor SP Sinha. The CBI had arrested Ganguly on September 15.

This order was passed by the CBI court on the request of the Central Investigation Agency. On September 16, on the request of the probe agency, the special court had sent Chatterjee to CBI remand till Wednesday. The agency had urged the court to interrogate Chatterjee in the matter. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the case following the order of the Calcutta High Court.

Chatterjee and his alleged close aide Arpita Mukherjee were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED, which is probing alleged financial misappropriation in the SSC recruitment scam, had seized Rs 49.80 crore in cash, gold and silver and jewellery, papers of the flat and other properties during the raids on July 23 from Mukherjee’s flat. The probe agency, in its charge sheet filed before the Prevention of Money Laundering Act court, has said that the total value of the seizure including cash is more than Rs 100 crore.
