The full moon of the Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month is called Sharad Purnima. According to astrologers, this night is full of sixteen phases of the moon. It is believed that the rays emanating from the moon are like nectar. This year Sharad Purnima was on 9th October, Sunday. The day of Sharad Purnima is considered a special day to please Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that on this day Goddess Lakshmi goes out on a pilgrimage at night.
worship rituals-
- On this holy day, wake up early in the morning and take a bath. Bathing in holy rivers has a lot of significance on this day. You can also take bath by adding Ganges water to the bath water. While taking a bath, meditate on all the holy rivers.
- After taking bath, light a lamp in the temple of the house.
- If possible, keep fast on this day also.
- Abhishek of all the deities with Ganga water.
- Worship of Lord Vishnu on the holy day of Purnima has special significance.
- On this day, worship Goddess Lakshmi along with Lord Vishnu.
- Offer offerings to Lord Vishnu. Also include Tulsi in the Bhog of Lord Vishnu. According to religious beliefs, Lord Vishnu does not accept Bhog without Tulsi. Keep in mind that only sattvik things are offered to the Lord.
- Perform aarti to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.
- On this holy day, do maximum meditation of Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi.
- Worshiping the moon on the full moon also has a special significance.
- After moonrise, one must worship the moon.
- Offering Arghya to the Moon gives freedom from defects.
- Help the needy people on this day.
- If there is a cow around your house, then definitely feed the cow. Feeding a cow gets rid of many kinds of defects.

What to do on Sharad Purnima
Wake up early in the morning on Sharad Purnima and take a vow of fasting. After this take a bath in a holy river or pool. After wearing clean clothes, worship your presiding deity. Offer Gandha, Akshat, Tambul, Deep, Flowers, Dhoop, Supari and Dakshina to the Lord during the worship. Make kheer with cow’s milk at night and offer it to God at midnight. At night, keep a vessel full of kheer in the light of the moon and take it on the next day. Distribute this kheer to everyone in the form of prasad.

On Sharad Purnima, fasting can be observed by consuming fruits and water. Only satvik food should be taken on this day. Wearing black colored clothes should be avoided on this day.
